SIMPLY JESUS DEVOTIONAL - ALL THE FULNESS OF GOD
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; Colossians 1:19

Here is truth that must never be surrendered.  In Jesus Christ, the Son of God lives all the fullness of God.  One translator reads the original, "Because in Him it did please all the fullness to tabernacle." (Young's Literal Translation).

Some have destroyed Christ's humanity to exalt His divinity.  They suggest that Christ "appeared to have a body" but that it was actually impossible for God to wrap Himself in human flesh.

Others have diminished Christ's divinity to emphasize his humanity. For them, Christ was simply a great man empowered by God. To them, Jesus was not God.

But we confess with Paul, IN HIM DWELLS ALL THE FULLNESS OF THE FATHER.  The Christ of Scripture, Jesus of Nazareth, is very God and very man.

"All wisdom to guide,
all power to uphold,
all love to soothe,
all grace to support, and
all tenderness to sympathize,"
are all-present always in our blessed Lord. (Octavius Winslow).

Spurgeon preached, "Our vast necessities demand fullness--all fullness--before they can be supplied!'  Jesus, the virgin-born risen-Savior supplies, sanctifies and satisfies His creation.

Just as the fullness of the Father dwells in the Son, Jesus prayed that the fullness of the Son would dwell in His disciples:

"[I pray] that they all may be one; as thou Father art in me, and I in thee, that they may be one in us...I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one."  (John 17:20-23).  What a prayer!  What a possibility!

Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.

Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.

By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.  Charles Wesley
