KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM, AND UNDERSTANDING ARE OURS IN JESUS CHRIST

Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.
We
need all three.
Knowledge--to see the facts as they are.
Wisdom--to grasp how those facts might be applied.
Understanding--to see the short and long term implications of what we know.
To
possess knowledge, and wisdom, and understanding of this world is
wonderful. The discoveries of science
are marvelous to behold. The benefits to
mankind have been far-reaching. (But the tragedy of our time is that while our knowledge
has increased our wisdom and understanding has diminished. It's happened before, read Romans 1, "professing themselves to be wise they became fools.")
But to possess knowledge, and wisdom, and understanding that is out of this world--spiritual and eternal not physical and temporary--is what the Apostle knew we needed most.
That's why he prayed that the Colossians would be filled with the knowledge of the Lord's will.
If they could perceive and be filled with the knowledge of the Lord's will then God could grant them wisdom.
If they could be filled with "all" wisdom, then their eyes would be opened to "spiritual understanding." The devil had promised to open the eyes of Adam and Eve and he closed them. The Lord Jesus promises to open the eyes of Adam and Eve's descendants, and he does just that.
What a prayer. What a promise.
It is not coincidental that as our generation has surrendered up spiritual understanding, cynically criticized godly wisdom, and doubted that the Lord's will could be known, we have witnessed a profound loss of practical wisdom and understanding.
When the First Cause is doubted, every cause is questioned.
When God's Wisdom is denied, then all wisdom is suspect.
And when the Knowledge of God Will is thought impossible, then truth is rendered relevant and man-made at best, or irrelevant and non-existent at worst.
IT'S SIMPLY THE KNOWLEDGE, WISDOM, AND UNDERSTANDING OF CHRIST THAT IS OUR FIRST AND GREATEST NEED--WE NEED "SIMPLY JESUS!"
