COLOSSIANS 3:5-7
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
"Eat this, NOT that!" has been read by millions of people who are anxious to find healthy food alternatives. Today's Scripture passage might be entitled, "Do this, OR else!"
Either we rule our passions or our passions rule us. Men of reason and self discipline are able, at least in some measure, to restrain their sensual appetites. But Christ's men are different. Their consecrated desire for Christ opens the door to the Spirit of Christ to sanctify their passions--destroying their natural carnal inclinations and giving them a spiritual mind.
The Apostle could not be clearer. Every Unnatural, degrading, sensual desire must be put to death. Sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires must be purposefully and zealously eradicated.
Under the impress of the Holy Spirit the Apostle commands God's people to put greed and every form of idolatry to death.
And then he warns, God's wrath is awaiting all who are rebellious and disobedient. Jesus himself warns, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36).
Chafing under the realization of God's demand for holiness and his own carnal inclination the Apostle Paul cries out, "Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"
His answer is still THE ANSWER! "I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:24,25)
Who delivers? SIMPLY JESUS!
