It is easy to get so caught up in the living of our daily lives that we fail to see the big picture. That even happens in the work of the ministry. Our focus on the needs of those who are suffering, mourning, straining financially, hurting emotionally, and spiritually searching, can be so overwhelming that we do not have time or energy to back away to see the big picture.

Yet to make sense of what we are experiencing personally, and as God’s people, we need to understand our times.

In the 1950’s and 1960’s we witnessed incredible social change. The sexual revolution, Free-thinking skepticism, entertainment that increasingly pressed the envelope of morality, and the widespread availability of television--a tremendous means through which godless behavior and Christless thinking could amuse our nation to death--produced a generation that was willing to jettison long held principles of morality and Christian thinking.

In the 1970’s and 1980’s the Christians were marginalized and mocked as "poor, uneducated, and easily led" The media, the academy, and the entertainers continued to scorn Biblical Christianity. Leaders in the Church, some I am sure well-meaning, thought that to meet these challenges, the Church should adapt her style and even the substance of our message to meet the spirit of the age. We wanted to be "relevant," and fell for the enemy’s deception again, "Ye shall be as gods..."

In the 1990’s and 2000’s we have watched an increasing militancy of those determined to destroy the remnant of Bible believing Christians. Truth was no longer relative, it was ir-relevant--if it even existed. The dominant philosophy and thinking of our generation is no friend of Biblical faith.

And so what will we do? We will with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stand! We will not blend. We will not bend. We will not bow. And praise the LORD we will not burn!

That’s DARING FAITH. That’s our faith.
